Canada (MEC) Voluntary Recall Notice
NOTE: Only Onya Baby carriers sold at MEC in Canada are affected by the following issue:
We’d like to inform you that Onya Baby and Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) have issued a voluntary recall on Outback carriers purchased from MEC between September 2013 and January 2014. The Outback colors affected by the recall are Jet Black and Burnt Orange/Slate Grey. The reason for the recall is that some of the mentioned carriers are missing a piece on the end of the sternum strap slider that might allow the chest clip to slide off the slider. There have been no reports of injuries as a result of this missing piece.
All of us here at Onya Baby want to reassure you that our decision to recall these carriers from MEC was completely voluntary, and we did it because we care first and foremost about safety, quality and transparency. We want to assure you that we are taking the steps necessary to correct this issue and ensure that it won’t happen again. We also want you to feel confident knowing that this issue was due to an error in manufacturing and not due to a flaw in design. Onya Baby carriers have always been designed and produced with your baby’s safety at the forefront.
We would like to assure you again that there have been no reports of injuries or falls. We opted to get ahead of any potential issues and call these carriers back in so that we can replace them with carriers that are fully functioning. Thank you so much for your understanding. We’re doing everything possible to fix it.
Please contact MEC directly if you have either a Jet Black or Burnt Orange Outback carrier that you purchased at MEC and that matches the following model numbers:
- OBMR20130625-3087 (Black),
- OBMR20130625-3032 (Orange/Grey)
Onya Baby carrier model numbers are located on a label sewn to the inside of the sleeping hood pocket.
