When you’re getting ready to wear your baby, do a once-over of your carrier to make sure it’s in sound condition. There should be no rips or broken stitches, no cracked or broken buckles.
Got a wrap? Check it for holes and tears. Use a sling? Again…check it out.
Use your judgement. Some damage might simply be cosmetic, such as a pull in the pocket fabric. But other damage will affect the structure and safety of your carrier, such as damage to the strap junction or buckles. A wrap or sling worn thin in any area is definitely ready to be retired.
Never use your carrier if you find structural damage. It’s just not worth the risk to your baby.
