Babywearing = emotionally healthy babies, more aware parents.
A baby carrier is an important tool in infant attachment and parental awareness of baby’s well-being.
An oldie-but-goodie: a landmark study at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons shows strong statistical significance between close physical contact and the healthy development of attachment in babies. When baby is worn in a baby carrier, both baby and parent benefit.
An excerpt form the conclusion: “The process of being carried close to the mother [in a soft infant carrier] seems to have had an effect on the infant’s security of attachment above and beyond that attributable to increased maternal responsivity as measured in this study.” Interestingly, according to the study, both mother and baby benefited by babywearing with increased awareness of each other. Wearing your baby is good for you, and good for your baby.
Using a sling, wrap or soft-structured baby carrier is not only convenient, it’s also really good for your baby’s emotional development and yours.
Babywearing = emotionally healthy babies.
