Since the beginning, we’ve dedicated ourselves to bringing Onya Baby carriers to families in need in various communities during the holiday season. In 2012 and 2013, we teamed up with Gina Crosely-Corcoran, the thought-provoking blogger behind the popular blog, The Feminist Breeder, to get carriers to Health ConnectOne nationwide, and Uzazi Village in Kansas City, MO. Those fund-raising efforts placed a total of over 20 Onya Baby carriers into the hands of mothers who needed them. We were both honored and thrilled to work with Gina and these community organizations dedicated to improving the lives of women and families in their communities.
With every new year, comes the commitment to giving back and providing baby carriers to families in need. This year, we’re thrilled to have become involved with the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) to bring baby carriers to mothers and babies who need them. Several months ago, we donated 20 Onya Baby carriers to the CCF.
The CCF is one of the top-rated children’s charities. CCF was formed in 2004 and exists to provide life-changing education, nourishment, health and social services, and support to vulnerable children from some of Cambodia’s most destitute communities. In the beginning, the organization revolved around the health and well-being of 87 youngsters. Today the CCF cares for more than 2,000 students and 10,000 people annually after extending their services to provide to entire families and communities in crisis. You can read all about CCF and their worthwhile mission on the the third-party site, Charity Navigator, a large, objective and well-respected charity rating site.
Our connection with CCF started with a personal love of gorgeous hikes and a relaxing glass of good wine. In the spring of 2013, two of our founders, Aleshia and Billy Rickard, went for a hike around the breathtaking Land of Medicine Buddha trail in Soquel, California. Following the hike, they decided to take in the scenery at a cozy local winery, where they struck up a conversation with the patron next to them. Her name is Gina Ord, and she was the one who introduced Onya Baby to CCF. Gina connected us with the right person at CCF to coordinate our donation.
We were all so excited about working with CCF! We believe in their mission, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to bring baby carriers to babies and moms in need for a third holiday season! We truly admire CCF’s dedication to family and community care, and wanted to help mothers and caregivers in their Maternity Care Program with the donation of these 20 baby carriers. We knew those carriers would help make those mothers’ lives easier. We were thrilled to learn that the carriers are being used in prenatal hospitals and day care centers, as well as by individual caregivers.
These carriers are helping babies stay close and bonded while their mothers can go about their day with the added security of knowing that their baby is in the very safest place, right on them. That’s no small thing. It’s truly life-changing for mother and baby, and for the babies and caregivers in hospitals and day care centers, as well.
